Overview

Online Markdown Viewer with HTML Preview ("the Extension") is a browser extension developed by LeadingTech.ca ("we", "us", "our"), available for Chrome, Edge, and Firefox. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data the Extension and its associated website collect, how it is used, and your rights.

In short: The Extension processes all data locally in your browser. It does not collect, transmit, or store any personal data.

Extension Data Practices

The Extension:

• Does not collect any personal information, browsing history, or page content.
• Does not transmit any data outside your browser. It makes zero network requests.
• Does not store data between sessions. No cookies, local storage, or persistent data is written by the Extension.
• Does not access browsing history, bookmarks, passwords, or any data beyond the active tab's content when you initiate a conversion.
• Processes everything locally. All Markdown-to-HTML and HTML-to-Markdown conversion, rendering, and file operations happen entirely within your browser.

Browser Permissions Explained

The Extension requires the following browser permissions, each used for a specific purpose:

• activeTab — Accesses the current tab's content only when you click the extension icon or use the context menu. It cannot access other tabs or run in the background.
• sidePanel — Opens the conversion results in the browser's side panel alongside the web page.
• contextMenus — Adds right-click options for "Convert Page to Markdown" and "Convert Selection to Markdown."
• scripting — Injects the content extraction script into the active tab when you initiate a conversion.
• downloads — Enables saving converted Markdown and HTML files to your computer when you click "Save."
• tabs — Identifies the active tab for content extraction
• clipboardWrite — Copies converted Markdown or HTML to your clipboard when you click Copy
• storage — Stores user preferences (such as text size) within the browser session
• host_permissions — Removed in version 1.9.8. The extension no longer requires access to any host URLs.

No permission allows background data collection, cross-tab access, or network communication.

Website Data

This website (markdownview.leadingtech.ca) collects limited data for site functionality and improvement:

• Analytics: We use Google Analytics (GA4) to understand how visitors use this website. GA4 may collect anonymized usage data such as page views, device type, and approximate location. No personally identifiable information is collected through analytics. You can opt out by using a browser ad blocker or the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
• Contact & feedback forms: If you voluntarily submit a form on this website, we collect the information you provide (message, email address if entered, feedback rating, uninstall reason). This data is sent via email to our support address and is used solely to respond to your inquiry or improve the Extension. We do not share form submissions with third parties.
• No cookies from the Extension: The Extension itself sets no cookies. This website may set cookies through Google Analytics.

Third-Party Services

• Chrome Web Store — Distribution for Chrome and Edge users is handled by Google's Chrome Web Store. Their privacy policy applies to the store itself.
• Mozilla Add-ons (AMO) — Distribution for Firefox users is handled by Mozilla's Add-ons platform. Their privacy policy applies to the store itself.
• Google Analytics (GA4) — Used on this website only (not in the Extension). See Google's Privacy Policy.
• Hostinger — This website is hosted by Hostinger. Form submissions are processed on their servers and forwarded via email. See Hostinger's Privacy Policy.

The Extension does not integrate with any third-party services, APIs, or analytics.

Data Retention

Extension: No data is stored or retained. Each conversion is processed in memory and discarded when the side panel is closed or a new conversion begins.

Website form submissions: Feedback and contact messages are retained in our email system for as long as needed to address your inquiry, typically no longer than 12 months, after which they are deleted.

Analytics: Google Analytics data is retained according to Google's standard retention policies (default 14 months).

Your Rights

You have the right to:

• Uninstall the Extension at any time through your browser's extension management page.
• Request deletion of any data you submitted through our website forms by contacting us.
• Opt out of Google Analytics using browser settings or the GA opt-out add-on.
• Access or correct any information you've provided to us via forms.

Since the Extension itself collects no data, there is nothing to access, export, or delete related to extension usage.

Children's Privacy

The Extension is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has submitted information through our website forms, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
